While unsuccessful in winning the tournament, losing to Yoshimitsu and having his ill-gotten gains seized by the ninja, his talent was recognized by one Kazuya Mishima who, upon winning the tournament and seizing control of the Mishima Zaibatsu, appointed Ganryu as a bodyguard.
